The Sir Peter Rigby Coronation Food Hub
16 Dec 2025
On behalf of the Sir Peter Rigby Charitable Trust, we have exciting news to share!
Yesterday marked the official opening of the Sir Peter Rigby Coronation Food Hub in Birmingham which will help turbo-charge the fight against food poverty and unemployment in the region. Funded by a £2 million donation from Sir Peter and operated by FareShare Midlands, the new Hub will double capacity for food redistribution and aims to provide 7 million meals a year to local charities. As well as supporting people in need, the Hub will save 3,250 tonnes of surplus food from going to waste.
Sir Peter’s donation is in direct response to King Charles III’s call to businesses to help stop 10 billion meals worth of edible food being wasted annually. Amongst the high high-profile guests who attended the launch to express their support were West Midlands Mayor, Richard Parker, the Lord-Lieutenant of the West Midlands (representing the King) and several CEOs of major UK retailers such as Tesco.
Sir Peter explained why the Hub is so important to him:
“I was deeply shocked and saddened to learn that nearly half of Birmingham’s children live in poverty, and my decision to support the new Coronation Food Hub reflects my commitment to ensuring that local families don’t go hungry."
The Hub will also enable local people to access free training in warehousing, catering and technology, supporting 500 people annually into sustainable employment.
We were delighted to be able help with the launch of this amazing initiative, which will support so many families and young people in need, across the West Midlands.
